When you're unloading and loading trucks, keeping a safe path for your pallet jacks, lift trucks or other equipment is a critical concern. Any equipment that bridges the opening between a loading dock and trailer or the ground must be resilient enough to uphold tremendous weight.
There are lots of options available from several different distributors in Santa Barbara County. While dock levelers are a popular option, portable dock plates, boards and ramps are more affordable and sometimes more adaptable possibilities. In comparison to levelers, these options can be readily relocated and put into use across multiple loading dock stations.
Dock plates are employed to span a gap from one area to another in material handling operations, generally between a loading dock and a trailer. They're built as a flat piece of metal with a small curve, and they frequently have a vertical safety foot installed on the bottom that maintains the plate in position during use. Dock plates are constructed of either steel or aluminum and can support capacities up to 17,000 pounds. They are generally made with a diamond plate surface for grip.
Dock boards offer a heavier duty option for bridging gaps and have borders fitted on either side, which strengthen the board and impede equipment from slipping over the sides. Dock boards come in both steel and lighter weight aluminum options. Curbs are either bolted or welded on either side. Like dock plates, dock boards frequently come equipped with a security foot and are typically made with a diamond plate facing.
A yard ramp is essentially a portable loading dock. It is a ramp that can be readily moved around a shipping and receiving yard to permit pallet trucks and forklifts to climb safely from floor level up to a container or trailer and back. Nearly all yard ramps have a height adjustment mechanism to accommodate various kinds of trucks and containers.
For storage facilities without loading docks, yard ramps are essential for loading and unloading goods from trailers and containers. A secondary application is to enable vehicles to drive into a building from ground level through a loading dock door.
Loading Dock Ramps
A dock to ground ramp is useful when you have occasion to move small trucks, vans or lift trucks in and out of your warehouse on a regular basis. It is a permanent or semi-permanent ramp that enables vehicle travel from grade level to dock elevation.
In contrast to yard ramps, dock to ground ramps aren't designed to be moved around frequently, and are meant as a stationary alternative. In addition, there is no need for a height adjustment mechanism, since the ramp rests stationary in one position.
