As part of the normal charging process, batteries need water. Every time a battery nears full charge, the water in the battery will start to separate into its component elements of oxygen and hydrogen. This gassing is desirable to remix the acid inside the liquid in the battery so the corrosiveness is not concentrated at the bottom of the battery opening the possibilty of damage.
Therefore, the water lost through gassing must be replaced. There are a variety of ways to replace the water in the battery:
Through a series of hoses connecting to the battery cells, with float valves to prevent over filling, a watering system replenishes the water in a battery lost through the gassing phase of battery charging.
